Pig Weight Calculator
Accurately estimate pig body weight using standard tape measurements in inches and obtain instant results in kilograms (kg) and pounds (lbs). Includes growth stage benchmarks and feeding recommendations.
Swine Tape Dimensions
Enter measurements in inches using a flexible measuring tape
Measure snugly around the chest directly behind the front legs.
Measure along the backbone from midpoint of ears/poll to base of tail.
Ensure the pig stands square on level ground with head held in a natural forward position. Take tape measurements before morning feeding for maximum consistency with true carcass weight.
Grower Stage (25 – 60 kg)
4.2 – 5.6kg/wk
16% – 18%CP
Balanced Grower Mash / Pellets
How to Weigh Pigs with a Measuring Tape
Follow this proven 3-step measuring method to estimate pig weights within 3% to 5% of certified scale weights.
Measure Heart Girth (HG)
Wrap the measuring tape completely around the pig's circumference right behind the front legs and over the heart. Pull the tape taut against the skin without compressing flesh. Record in inches.
Measure Body Length (BL)
Measure along the spine from the poll/crown (midpoint between the ears) straight to the root of the tail. Make sure the pig's head is level and not bowed. Record in inches.
Calculate Imperial & Metric
Square the Heart Girth, multiply by the Body Length, and divide by 400. Multiply pounds by 0.45359237 to get the final estimated weight in kilograms.
Standard Swine Growth Benchmarks
Reference table for typical commercial pig production stages, expected weekly growth rates, and feed crude protein requirements.
| Stage | Weight Range | Approx. Age | Target Weekly Gain | Crude Protein | Recommended Diet |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Piglet / Creep | < 8 kg (< 18 lbs) | 1 – 4 weeks | 1.2 – 2.0 kg/wk | 20% – 22% | High-digestibility Creep Mash / Pellets |
| Weaner / Nursery | 8 – 25 kg (18 – 55 lbs) | 4 – 10 weeks | 2.5 – 3.8 kg/wk | 18% – 20% | Weaner / Starter Crumble |
| Grower | 25 – 60 kg (55 – 132 lbs) | 10 – 16 weeks | 4.2 – 5.6 kg/wk | 16% – 18% | Balanced Grower Mash / Pellets |
| Finisher | 60 – 110+ kg (132 – 240+ lbs) | 16 – 24+ weeks | 5.6 – 7.0 kg/wk | 13% – 15% | Finisher Ration for lean muscle growth |
Ensure nipple drinkers provide at least 1.5 to 2.0 L/min for growers and finishers. Reduced water intake directly depresses feed consumption and daily gain.
Deworm weaners at transition into grower pens (approx. 25–30 kg) with broad-spectrum ivermectin or levamisole to eliminate internal parasites that steal nutrient conversion.
Target a Feed Conversion Ratio of 2.6 to 2.9 kg feed per kg of gain. Adjust feeder plates regularly to prevent feed wastage in the pen manure pit.
